Cantor Hordes and I have developed a new program for Tefillah and Kabbalat Shabbat. It’s called listening, learning and leading. During services students must listen to the Tefillah and follow as best as they can with their finger in their Siddur, Cantor or I will walk around the room and help any child who is having difficulty. We really want the children to learn the Brochot by reading, not just by note. This way they will really learn the words instead of making attempts to just mimic what they hear. As they become more proficient, hopefully, they will gain the confidence to become leaders during Tefillah and lead, learn and help others to share in the mitzvah.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THE UPCOMING MONTH
We end the month of February with a visit from “Shakespeare” on 02/27/08 (for ALL students).
March begins with a talent show. The talent show is March 14th (there is NO school on Friday, 03/07/08). Rosh Chodesh (Adar II) is Friday March 7th, but since there is no school on Friday, we will observe Rosh Chodesh (non-uniform day) on Thursday, 03/06/08. Purim will be celebrated with a morning (9a – 12p) filled with learning and fun in conjunction with Torah Academy at Congregation Anshei S’Fard . The festivities will be on Friday, 03/21/08. Our students will then go to lunch at the Jewish Community Center. The students will show their “costumes” and give Shaloach Manot to the lunch crowd of “seniors.” Of course, we will have hamantaschen as well.
These highlights are added to the learning and sharing that our students experience everyday. Please, come and visit and, perhaps, participate with us on these upcoming “happenings” at Eliahu Academy!
